10 Priests Displaced, 7 Parishes, 10 Local Churches Sacked in Wukari Diocese

No fewer than 10 priests, 7 parishes and 20 Outstation Churches have been adversely affected by protracted attacks in Wukari Diocese, north-east Nigeria, where St. Mary’s Cathedral was recently gutted by a fire caused by an electrical fault.

According to data obtained by Advocatus Africa, seven parishes, including not less than ten outstations in each of Peva–Chanchanji Deanery, have been affected.

While Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Peva, risks being closed due to killings and displacement of people, the story is the same in Takum Deanery.

6 pastoral areas parishes have been vacated, 10 priests have lost their parishes, and others have been assigned to other parishes, while thousands of parishioners have been displaced.

Pastoral areas, including New Gboko, Demeva, Ansua, Atav, Uso, Adu, and 1 parish, Geraga Parish, have been affected.

While the humanitarian crisis lasts, the diocese is yet to recover from the fire that gutted St. Mary’s Cathedral Wukari on 4 March 2026, between about 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. local time.

The precarious nature of security in Peva, Takum, and Donga Deaneries, Southern Taraba, calls for urgent action by civil authorities.
