Nigeria: Military kills top Sambisa Commander, 10 other terrorists in midnight operation

In its ongoing campaign against terrorist factions in the North-East, particularly the lethal Boko Haram insurgents, the Nigerian army has achieved significant victories through a recent night operation that resulted in the elimination of a high-ranking commander and several frontline members of the group.

According to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Network News, “Troops from the Joint Task Force (Northeast), Operation HADIN KAI, have celebrated a substantial operational achievement with the neutralization of a senior Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Abu Khalid, along with ten other terrorists during a nighttime operation in Borno State.”

NTA referenced a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI, which reported that “Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, was eliminated by troops from Sector 1, with support from the Civilian Joint Task Force, during an engagement in the Komala area of the Konduga Local Government Area at approximately 11:00 p.m.”

As a prominent figure in the organization’s hierarchy, Khalid was responsible for coordination and logistics management in the Sambisa Forest area.

During the operation, troops recovered various items, including five AK-47 rifles, magazines, bicycles, assorted logistics, food supplies, and significant quantities of medical provisions.

Officials confirmed that the troops did not incur any casualties and reiterated their commitment to clearing the Sambisa axis, which encompasses the Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other strongholds for terrorists throughout the North-East region.

In the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle, the military also neutralized another notorious commander, Julaibib, marking the Sambisa operation as a second success for the troops within a span of less than 24 hours.
