St. Gabriel’s Parish, Daura in Katsina, the newest diocese, northwest Nigeria, has concluded activities commemorating 25 years of the existence of the Holy Childhood Association (HCA) at the national level.
The diocese, which announced this on its social media platform, highlighted “the association’s mission to nurture young Catholics in prayer, charity, and evangelisation” during the colourful ceremony in which results were announced for the Quiz and Bible Sword Competitions from different HCA groups within the parish which spiced up the event.

Advocatus Africa gathered that in the Quiz Competition, St. Mary’s emerged in 1st place, demonstrating outstanding knowledge and teamwork; St. Martin De-Porres Cathedral secured 2nd place after a competitive round, and St. Joseph’s came in 3rd place, putting up a commendable performance.
Meanwhile, participants for the Bible Sword Competition were tested on speed and familiarity with the Bible and the 1st place went to St. Martin De-Porrea for demonstrating an impressive display of scriptural knowledge, St. Joseph’s clinched 2nd place, and St. Gabriel finished 3rd place.

The event brought children, coordinators, and parishioners together “for a day filled with faith-based activities, learning, and friendly competition,” the diocese noted.
It also noted that “The anniversary celebration was marked by enthusiasm, unity, and a deep spirit of faith among the children. Coordinators and parish leaders praised the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue growing in their Christian values and missionary spirit.”

Other highpoints of the event included prayers, and “spiritual and intellectual contests aimed at strengthening the children’s knowledge of the faith and the Word of God.”
The organisers expressed appreciation to the participants, their sponsors and supporters for contributing to the success of the occasion.
Katsina diocese was carved out of Sokoto on 16 October 2023 by Pope Francis, who appointed Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Mamman Musa as its first indigenous Bishop.
