Submissions Guidelines

Are you considering submitting a story or article to Advocatus Africa? Well, at Advocatus, we stand for truth, justice, and right. As a brand that falls within the intersection of faith (Church), culture, politics, and integral development, we prefer factual, timely, and unbiased stories, articles, opinions, commentaries, book reviews, and features that underscore these themes.

All submissions should run between 700 and 1000 words. We do not accept submissions that have been made elsewhere. We advise that submissions should be exclusive to Advocatus. We may republish articles or materials that are crucial, either in print or online. We do not accept anonymous submissions. Only features, opinions, and articles will carry the name of the author. Other stories will retain our by-line except those written by our staff. Send your article as a Microsoft Word document to advocatusafrica@gmail.com. Contributors should include a short by-line and a sharp headshot photo.

Advocatus retains the right to edit submissions for grammar, brevity, style, clarity, and content. We do not send stories to authors for approval before publication, and once published, we retain the right to reprint. If you do not hear from us or see your article on our website after two weeks, assume that it has been declined.

Manuscript Guidelines:

In line with our mission, we seek submissions that:

  • Accentuates the influence of Christian civilisation handed over to the one, holy Catholic and apostolic (Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, No. 811) by Christ in defense of truth, justice, right, and integral human development.
  • Underscores the plight of the persecuted Church across Africa, giving a voice to the voiceless and marginalised.
  • Highlights groundbreaking information on religious, political, educational, socio-economic, cultural, and moral issues that give a voice to Vatican-related issues.
  • Emphasises crucial events across the Catholic world – in arch/dioceses, parishes, and local churches through various formats, including news articles, commentaries, features, reflections, podcasts, and videos.
  • Underlies timely and succinct debates on how faith, morals, and culture intersect with politics across the continent and their implications for the future of the Catholic Church.
  • Addresses the dangers of syncretism, relativism, modernism, secularism, tribalism, and politics of bad blood to contemporary Christianity.
  • Clarify and amplify the heroic witness of priests, religious, and members of the laity working in conflict zones in advancing the missionary enterprise of the Church, winning souls for Christ.
