The Catholic Diocese of Jalingo in north-eastern Nigeria has demonstrated its commitment to peace and security in Taraba State by donating land for a newly built and commissioned police post.
Speaking during the commissioning and blessing of a new Police Outpost at the Lasandi Area of Jalingo Metropolis on 3 February 2026, Catholic Bishop of Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev. Charles Hammawa, disclosed that the Church decided to donate the land to support security agents in their commitment to securing the community and society.

The Lasandi outpost was built by the management of Road House Restaurant and Lounge, located at Mile 6 Bypass, Jalingo Road House, which also engages in various humanitarian activities.
Following the Catholic Social Teaching (CST), which underlines the need for security as a fundamental human need, Unitatis Media operated by the Directorate of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, quoted Bishop Hammawa as saying, “that the Church remains deeply involved in the affairs of humanity, not only through spiritual guidance but also by supporting initiatives that promote peace, safety, and development.”

The Prelate, who pledged that the Church would continue to pray for security personnel, used the occasion to express appreciation to the police authorities for constructing the facility, adding that the project would no doubt contribute significantly to security in the community.
Mr. Emmanuel Machoko, who spoke on behalf of Road House, disclosed that they undertook the project to support the Nigerian Police in its effort to bolster security in the Lassandi area of the state.
According to him, the organisation also donated two motorcycles to facilitate smooth operations at the outpost.

On his part, the Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area, Hon. Nura Dansoho, who lauded the initiative, commended Jalingo Diocese for donating the plot of land, adding that the initiative would strengthen security in Jalingo and Taraba State as a whole.
Hon. Dan urged the police officers to act with due diligence while upholding the professionalism the force is known for.
During the occasion, which attracted the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Intelligence, and the representative of the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State Command, stakeholders and community leaders pledged to work for peace and security in Taraba State and its environs.
Taraba State faces significant security challenges, including kidnapping, farmer-herder conflicts, and ethnic violence, disrupting livelihoods.
In response, the State Governor, His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas’s administration took steps to enhance security by ordering all schools to operate as day schools for students’ safety amid security threats.
