Nigeria: Suspected Lakurawa Terrorists Kill 34 in Fresh Kebbi Coordinated Attacks

Emerging reports indicate that 34 people were killed by suspected Lakurawa terrorists in fresh Kebbi coordinated attacks.

The attacks, which occurred on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, across communities in Arewa Local Government Area (LGA), Kebbi State, North-West, lasted for hours, from morning to noon.

Local sources disclose that the attacks, which left various families fleeing for safety is one of the deadliest in recent times.

In terms of casualties based on each village, in Mamunu, 16 people were killed, 5 in Awashaka, and 3 in Masama.

In Gorin Dena, Kamzo, Dan Mai Rago, Tungar Bature, and Tungar Tsoho, 2 residents were killed in each community in that order.

Confirming the incident on Friday, 20 February, the Kebbi State Police Command’s spokesman, Bashir Usman, disclosed that the command has reinforced security in the various communities affected.

He also revealed that preliminary reports showed that the Lakurawa terrorists, who were on a mission to rustle cattle, had crossed into Kebbi from Gudu LGA of Sokoto State.

According to Usman, “33 people lost their lives,” when “residents of Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago mobilised in response to the invasion.”

The attack has left residents in fear and apprehension across the Kangiwa area due to the cycle of violence in Arewa LGA.  

However, Usman assured that “Targeted operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, as well as to strengthen early warning mechanisms in vulnerable communities across the state.”
