The Kukah Centre (TKC) has proudly announced that its founder and convener, the Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, has been awarded the prestigious Courage in Leadership Award at The Sun Awards 2025.
In a powerful statement, Fr. Dr. Atta Barkindo, the Director of TKC, affirmed that “this recognition carries immense significance for us at the Centre.”

He expressed unwavering optimism about the award, declaring, “This is not just an accolade; it embodies a lifetime committed to truth, justice, bridge-building, and national cohesion.”
As the secretary of The National Peace Committee, an organization established by Bishop Kukah and chaired by former President Abdulsalam Abubakar, Barkindo emphasised that “in a time when Nigeria faces complex social and political challenges, honouring courage in leadership is not only essential but profoundly timely.”

The centre maintained that “The Sun’s selection reflects a decades-long commitment to speaking truth to power, advancing peace, and standing firmly on the side of the common good with work that spans interfaith dialogue, good governance, national reconciliation, leadership development, knowledge promotion and memory preservation, and human rights advocacy which are the very pillars that The Kukah Centre was founded on.
