Inspired by the principle of subsidiarity and corporate governance, the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia recently donated two new electric street sweepers and scraper vehicles to the Abia State Government.
Because Catholic Social Teaching (CST) demands that business operations align with moral, social, and environmental responsibilities, the presentation was aimed at boosting environmental sanitation across the state, especially in Umuahia, the capital city.

The Church sees the action as part of its efforts to cement the cooperative relationship between the Church and the state authorities, given that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a moral imperative that is rooted in the dignity of the human person, prioritizing the common good.
Speaking while handing over the vehicles, the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. Michael Kalu Ukpong, who stated that the Diocese made the move, is meant to complement the efforts of the government, emphasised that the act is meant to contribute to a cleaner Abia.

The Bishop who lauded Governor, Dr. Alex C. Otti and the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) for improved sanitation conditions enjoyed in the state added, “cleanliness is next to godliness.”
On behalf of ASEPA, the Deputy General Manager and Catechist, Ambrose Johah, commanded the Diocese for the timely donation, pledged that the equipment would be used judiciously.
