Describing the attack as a “serious incident of sacrilege and vandalism,” the parish priest, Fr. Russell Pollitt noted beyond decorations, sacred objects are treasured symbols of faith, prayer and spiritual heritage.

Fr. Pollit emphasised the 90-year-old Church is also heritage building, making the attack both as an act of sacrilege and a damage to a historic Johannesburg landmark.

While soliciting prayers for act healing and restoration, it is hoped that the government and police authorities would investigate the matter so that justice is served for the clergy, parishioners and all those affected by the sacrilegious act.
