Bauchi-Gombe Corridor Under Siege as at Least 100,000 Flee Terrorists’ Invasion

  • 100,000 residents to scamper for safety across 9 Bauchi communities
  • Tens of thousands of poor women and children are taking refuge in Kumo Primary School; others are at makeshift camps across Gombe, Plateau, and Taraba states
  • Several persons were killed, with others abducted
  • Terrorists, mostly illegal miners, collude with local conspirators

Following the recent visit of Governor Bala Mohammed to the state house, emerging reports indicate that Bauchi communities are currently under siege by armed gangs fleeing military bombardment in the Northwest.

While Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina and Niger have been submerged with a continued destruction of entire communities, Fulani militia gangs have laid siege on communities in Bauchi State, wreaking havoc.

Governor Bala Mohammed raised alarm that at least 10,000 terrorists on motorbikes have invaded communities in Gwana District of Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, forcing more than 100,000 residents to scamper for safety.

He sought presidential intervention to dislodge the terrorists following coordinated attacks in Duguri axis and other adjoining communities.

Bauchi is currently under siege, with residents from the Mansur, Digare, Yalo (Yalau), Futuk, Gwana, Garin Mansur, Duguri, Yelwan Fatuk, and Garin Kwairi communities being dislodged and now taking refuge at Kashere school.

Reports indicate that while tens of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) – poor women and children fled their homes, their farming communities and livestock on foot, motorcycles, and vehicles to neighbouring Gombe State, others are now taking shelter at Kashere Central Primary School in Akko LGA, Gombe State, Kumo, and other makeshift camps across Gombe, Plateau, and Taraba states.

While two soldiers were allegedly killed in Gwana while defending the community, one vigilante member lost his life in the same attack.

Meanwhile, four residents were killed in Kafin Duguri village, six were abducted in Digare, although two were later rescued. In Garin Kwairi, a councillor and two women were abducted.

Although the villagers reportedly repelled the attacks by killing seven of the attackers at Gwana, more than 20 Fulani militia were killed in Kafin Duguri.

Experts who finger the Fulani Miyetti Allah (MACBAN) behind these atrocities believe that the group works in collaboration with local conspirators, especially redundant illegal miners, who are fleeing increased military kinetic onslaught in the North-West.
