The Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV has appointed Archbishop Jude Thaddeus Okolo as the new Apostolic Nuncio to Haiti.
The appointment dated Wednesday, February 11 was released by the Holy See Press Office read in part: “Let us together uphold the Representative of the Holy Father in Haiti in our prayers and entrust his mission to the intercession of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Patroness of Haiti” detailed the statement of Chargé d’Affaires, Monsignor Claude Eric Andriamirado.
He indicated that the appointment is greeted with joy while asking the faithful to support the new papal legete in prayer.
Following a sede vacante (absence of a nuncio) since January 2024 when Archbishop Francisco Gerardo Escalante Molina was moved to Japan, Archbishop Okolo who was the Pope’s representative in Czech Republic was appointed.
Fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, German, and French, the titular Archbishop of Novica, first served as Nuncio to the Central African Republic and Chad in 2008.
Archbishop Okolo, 69, was also the Pope’s representative in the Dominican Republic and Ireland and Puerto Rico.
It is expected that the Archbishop will bring his diplomatic experience into the Caribbean country which faces poverty and underdevelopment.
