PMS National Directors Gather in Rome for General Assembly, Commit to Prayer, Renewed Missionary Exploits

Over 100 National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) from various countries have convened in Rome for the 2026 General Assembly to discuss their commitment to missionary work.

Nigeria’s PMS National Director, Very Rev. Fr. Solomon Zaku described the gathering as “a moment of prayer, reflection, and renewed missionary commitment.”

Advocatus Africa gathered that the Assembly highlights the global mission of the four Pontifical Mission Societies, Propagation of the Faith, Holy Childhood Association, St. Peter the Apostle and Pontifical Missionary Union.

Fr. Zaku explained that “Together, they continue to support evangelisation, missionary formation, children’s welfare, vocations, healthcare, education, and pastoral projects in mission territories.”

Highpoints of the Assembly would be a special audience with Pope Leo XIV on 1 June, where participants will hold talks with the Holy Father “on communication, fundraising, and new missionary projects for the universal Church.”

The meeting is coming at a time that Pope Leo’s has consistently called for “Faith, prayer, and generosity can transform entire communities.”

The Vicar of Christ underscores that the PMS is the “primary means” of awakening missionary responsibility among the baptised, especially supporting young Churches around the world

As the Church prepares to mark 100 years of World Mission Day in 2026, the assembly expects every baptised Christian to actively participate in the mission of Christ through prayer, sacrifice and generosity.
