Following his 13 February 2026 appointment by Pope Leo XIV as the Auxiliary Bishop-elect of the Archdiocese of Bamenda, Monsignor John B. Tata has officially taken the Oath of Fidelity to God and the Church in accordance with Sacred Tradition and the provisions of Canon Law for coadjutor and auxiliary bishops (Cf. Canons 380 & 833, Par. 4).
Standing before the Apostolic Nunciature to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, Archbishop Jose Avelino Monsignor Tata took the Solemn Profession of Faith, a sign of filial commitment to uphold the teachings of the Church as contained in divine revelation, sacred tradition, as taught by the Magisterium, and handed down through unbroken apostolic succession.
In keeping with fidelity to the Apostolic See, a Bishop designate is expected to publicly take the Oath before his episcopal consecration, which prepares him as a shepherd ready to teach/preach, sanctify and govern.
This ritual publicly attests to his unshakeable resolve to uphold the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Magisterium of the Church.
