“A little big warrior fighting brain cancer with all his spirit” wows Pope Leo XIV with a violin

A courageous little warrior, battling brain cancer, has serenaded Pope Leo XIV with the strings of the violin, filling the air with hope and inspiration.

The inspiring child with an unyielding spirit named Julius triumphed over illness, dazzling Pope Leo XIV with his exceptional violin performance on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at Acerra, Italy.

The heartwarming event took place in the Southern Campania region during the Pontiff’s pastoral visit to offer solidarity and address local environmental and social challenges.

In his meeting with the local people of the “Land of Fires,” the successor of St. Peter met with the bishops of Campania, the clergy and religious, mayors, families who have suffered from environmental pollution and the faithful of the municipalities.

Meanwhile, amid a massive crowd lining up, the young boy stepped forward with his violin to play for the Pope, who gave a warm smile at the unexpected musical tribute.

Reacting to the video of the young violinist shared by ChurchPOP, a Catholic news and culture agency, his grandfather, An To, wrote, “That kid with the violin is named Julius. That’s my gorgeous grandson, a little big warrior fighting brain cancer with all his spirit.”

His grandfather further noted, today among those hands that face immense trials every day, there was also his violin; not only an instrument, but a voice that speaks to the heart.”

He also prayed, “May the notes that Giulio donated reach far, go through the pain, ignite hope and remind everyone that even in the hardest battles, there is music capable of keeping the light alive.”

To sum up his sentiments, he encouraged his grandson to keep playing the musical instrument while pleading with the Holy Father to pray for children.

“Come on, Julius, keep playing your melody: You’re teaching us courage every day. Thank you, Papa Leo… Always pray for all the children,” he stated.
