The Holy Father has appointed Mgr. Relwendé Kisito Ouédraogo as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of the Congo, elevating him to the titular see of Ilta and to the rank of Archbishop.
Ouédraogo, 53, was born in Gourcy, Burkina Faso, and ordained a priest on 3 December 2000, for the Diocese of Ouahigouya.
He holds a doctorate in liturgy and has sixteen years of experience in the Diplomatic Service, having begun his service on 11 January 2010.
Coming from the Sahelian state, he is fluent in Mooré, French, English, Italian, and German.

The new Nuncio is anticipated to apply his diplomatic, administrative and pastoral expertise in the service of God and humanity, particularly in the crisis-affected state.
This appointment comes 125 years after the establishment of the Catholic Church in Burkina Faso and is viewed by priests, religious leaders and members of the laity as a significant sign of God’s providence and a hopeful message for Christianity in central Africa.
Before his appointment, he served as an official in the General Affairs Section of the State Secretariat of the Holy See.
